Colleagues, Today on the anniversary of 9/11 attacks, we take a moment to remember those we lost, those who became heroes and how our country was forever changed. Since 9/11 has become a day of service across our country and service to others is deeply connected to our mission to improve the lives of those in the communities we serve. I wanted to share a moment in a nurse colleagues life that I was privileged to take part in this morning.

Erin Prendergast, RN and founder of On Butterfly WingsErin Prendergast, RN and founder of On Butterfly Wings was honored today with a $10,000 donation to the THR foundation, in her name from the Good Shepherd Episcopal School in Dallas to help build the new butterfly garden and reflection space at our new THD cancer center, that is now under construction.

It is very humbling for me to see the amazing impact our nurses have on our community and our profession. This generous gift will create a legacy for Erin and all of her nursing colleagues at Texas Health Dallas.

The IOM Future of Nursing Report called for every nurse to be a leader, to advance their education, to impact lives of patients/families/communities and to be proud of what they are accomplishing – from the curbside to the bedside to the board room. What I witnessed today certainly reflected the spirit of the report and true nature of the nursing profession.

Congratulations Erin! You make us all so proud to practice the art and science of nursing shoulder-to-shoulder with you every day.erin-receives-donationamerican-flag

Thank you for what each of you do every day to care for our patients, lead in the profession and make THD an amazing place.
