A Down-To-Earth Organization That Is All About Hope

Erin Prendergast Wins THD Community Service Award For 2013

Recognition/Honor – Employee

Erin Prendergast receives THD Community Service Award for 2013.

Community Service Award - 2013When it came time for Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas leaders to name the first recipient of the hospital’s Community Service Award, Erin Prendergast, RN, was a natural choice.

Erin has worked for Texas Health Dallas since 1991, and has been a staff member in the hospital’s Breast Center since 2007. She founded the organization On Butterflies Wings, which combines her passion for butterfly gardening and dedication to giving her breast cancer patients hope. She’s done numerous inspirational speaking engagements at area schools and community organizations and donates a portion of her organization’s proceeds to the breast-care program fund at THD.

“Erin inspires everyone around her,” said,” said Cole Edmonson, DNP, RN, FACHE, NEA-BC, chief nursing officer at Texas Health Dallas. “She finds new and creative ways to combine art and the science of nursing to help patients and families heal. We are blessed to have her as a part of our professional nursing staff.”

The Texas Health Dallas Community Service Award was established to honor a THD employee who embodies the spirit of the Texas Health Resources mission, going above and beyond to serve others outside of hospital.

Texas Health Dallas President Britt Berrett, Ph.D. presented Erin Prendergast, RN, with the THD Community Service Award at the Texas Health Resources University open house event last month.

Erin – Congratulations on this award! My husband and I are honored to know you and to hear your story. I was already grateful for your caring support during my biopsy and then it was so nice to see a familiar face when I showed up for surgery a few weeks later. Best wishes to you and we will support your organization now when we are looking for a unique gift for someone who needs a lift in spirits.
